More on Land Desktop 2006 and 2007- MDAC, Windows XP and Errors

The other day I did a post called "Keeping IT Clean" about making sure your OS is in shipshape before you install 2006 or 2007 based products, ESPECIALLY Land Desktop.

I got a few emails asking me "But how will I know if I have those problems"

Well, today I was able to put that knowledge to good use! I got a tech support call that could be answered with that exact solution! How lucky am I!

Here are a few errors you may get if you need to fix your MDAC.

LAND DESKTOP 2006 upon opening:

Error Opening Point XDRef Database:
(your file path here)
Error SCODE: 80040154

Error creating Point XDRef Database:
(your file path here)
Error SCODE: 80040154

Error creating Point DescKey Database:
(your file path here)
Error SCODE: 80040154

Error creating Point Database:
(your file path here)
Error SCODE: 80040154

And potentially also:
"AutoCAD Land Development Desktop is not initialized"
"Autodesk Land Desktop is not initialized"

or some variation of that theme

How to Repair MDAC 2.81 under Windows XP with SP21.

1. Open the folder C:\Windows\inf and locate the file mdac.inf. Note: Your Windows folder could be named differently, e.g. C:\WinXP2.
2. Right-click the file mdac.inf and click Install.
3. When prompted for a location, point to C:\Windows\servicepackfiles\i3864.
4. When prompted for the file handler.reg, either point to C:\Program files\Common files\System\msadc, or put the Windows XP CD in your CD-ROM drive.
5. This reinstalls / repairs MDAC 2.81 under Windows XP SP2.
